Shampoo & Conditioner
- Avalon Organics Peppermint Shampoo – I personally love this because the peppermint scent can help us feel more alert and reduce stress.
- ATTITUDE Super Leaves – This is a shampoo and conditioner bundle, which makes it super easy!
- Jade Roller and Gua Sha Tool – This easy-to-use tool helps relieve tense muscles and facial puffiness. I love using the jade roller particularly around my jaw line, since I tend to clench my teeth at night.
KORA Organics Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating Mask – This mask can be used up to 2-3 times per week according to KORA, which makes it easy to implement into your routine.
- Collagen Under-Eye Patches – Now, these don’t make the cut for the EWG list. BUT, I love using them as part of my self-care routine. I keep a couple in the fridge (not freezer) and then apply them for a few minutes when I need a pick-me-up.
- Nighttime Eye Mask – Light interferes with your body’s melatonin production, so keeping the lights dim before bed and while sleeping is important. I prefer the silk eye masks because they are softer.
You may have read this header (ears) and been like… what?!
But noise-cancelling headphones are a must for me as part of my self-care routine.
Body
Skin
When I think of self-care for my body, I typically think of things like joyful movement, aka moving my body in a way that brings pleasure (such as hiking, dancing, gardening, etc.).
But body also includes our skin.
- Dry brush – Dry brushes are used to exfoliate the skin, promote blood flow, and promote lymph flow/drainage, Brush in sweeping motions TOWARDS the heart. After dry brushing, I lather up with some body lotion or coconut oil to keep my skin feeling soft.
Muscles
Relieving achy muscles is absolutely a form of self-care.
I love this massage gun for several reasons:
- It gives me a way to relax without the active movement of stretching (aka I can lazily use this on my couch while watching an episode on Hulu or Netflix)
- It has 3 speeds and comes with 5 head attachments
- It gives my hands a break because personally, my husband has huge muscles and I don’t know how massage therapists have the hand strength!
- It’s lightweight (1.8 pounds) and TSA-approved as part of your carry-on
Combine use of the massage gun with a magnesium soak in the tub to feel even better!
Feet
Tacklin' the toes
When we think of self-care, a lot of us may think about getting a pedicure. Those can require time and money, so here’s an at-home alternative for easier, more frequent self-care routines:
- Foot soaker with heat and massage – Who said working at home from a desk all day had to mean sacrificing self-care?! Pop this under your desk to easily build self-care into your day. Use the magnesium salts to make this even nicer! Then, dry off and use coconut oil (followed by cotton socks to prevent sliding on the floor) for a restorative balm.
Other Self-Care Tools
Pura is a fragrance diffuser that utilizes essential oils. It holds up to 2 fragrances at a time and is connected to an app. I’ll admit – at first, I wasn’t a fan of needing an app to use the diffuser. But, it’s actually been incredibly beneficial. I scheduled a relaxing scent for nighttime (about an hour before bed) and a bright, invigorating scent for the morning (about 15 minutes before I wake up).
